It’s All Gone To The Dogs!
Cheryl Ueberdiek from New Beith read a sad article about drought-stricken farmers having to consider destroying their beloved dogs because of the sheer lack of money. Although Cheryl is not a charity or a dog rescue organisation, she felt compelled to help as a concerned community member and dog lover.
Drought stricken farmers are spending every cent on feeding and watering their stock with little left for their working dogs. Cheryl put a plea out to the Logan community to donate just 1 can or bag (any size) of dog food to send out to the farmers in the hope of saving their dogs.
Kathleen de Leon, Candidate for division 11, heard Cheryl’s plea and jumped on board delivering a large bag of dog food and helped to spread the word through the Gotta Love Logan platform.
Maclean’s Produce and Budget Pet Products, all donated pallets of feed. Harvey’s Towing also donated a full pallet as well as offered a truck to transport the dog food. Jimboomba Produce provided a collection point for the community to drop off dog food. MacLean’s Produce were taking phone orders from all over Australia purchasing dog food for the appeal. Pet food that was donated to the bushfire victims which was no longer needed was also sent to Cheryl for distribution amongst the farmers.
Cheryl collected a whopping 22 tonne of dog food and 2 tonne of chicken food. This far exceeded Cheryl’s original goal of 6 tonne.
Cheryl and Karl delivered the dog food to Warwick, Stanthorpe and Texas to a tearful and incredibly thankful farming community. This thoughtful gesture showed these humble farmers that they have not been forgotten. Cheryl and Karl would like to thank all involved
