Alabaster Theatre A Creative Community

Alabaster Theatre by Leanne Malone

Throughout every generation and culture, storytelling has remained a valuable and wholesome part of any community. A particular company of young creatives have seen this wholesome and impacting art of storytelling first hand. Alabaster Theatre has been producing, training and performing original musical theatre to the Logan Community since 2008.

The growing company is creating a space for people of all ages to express their passion for the performing arts while bringing a high standard of entertainment to Logan City. “We don’t just develop performers, but singer songwriters, photographers, choreographers, graphic designers, teachers and authors as well”, company director, Bethany Carlos said.

While producing a main house production once a year, Alabaster Theatre also runs a theatre school. Bethany’s heart for running a theatre school for kids and youth was born out her own desire to tell stories as a young person. “As a little drama queen it was difficult to find a creative, safe and accepting outlet”, she said. Now she is passionate about creating such an environment for the next generation. Bethany says, “Having the ability to communicate emotions and stories through the medium of song, the written word, colour and movement is an art form to be developed and nurtured. I love teaching young people that we are not crowned artists by what we are paid, who approves of us or how many people hit ‘Like’ on our art. We are defined by our passion and persistence to tell stories, challenge the world around us and express the God given talent inside of us. Teaching a very talented generation to express the life, light and love that this planet needs is very rewarding.”

Twice a week this creative community gathers and continues to create, write, choreograph, teach and persist in telling stories that move people. You may find this theatre company pop up in your school, community event, conference, flash mob, church or theatre in Logan. “It doesn’t matter how big or small our stage is, our desire as a creative community is that people would experience hope through the stories we tell.”

Alabaster Theatre meets weekly at Browns Plains to workshop a variety of creative arts. Contact Bethany Carlos for more details Alabastertheatre.com – bethany@alabastertheatre.com
