Gourmet group offers Companionship & Support
Inspired by the need for some ‘secret men’s business’, a group of men from Seasons Waterford West started the Wandering Gourmets group. And while food may form the basis of their outings, it turns out there is something even more nourishing on the menu.
According to group coordinator Joe, the Wandering Gourmets meet every fortnight and visit a range of different clubs, cafés and restaurants.
“It’s about fellowship. Sitting there talking, telling tall tales and just enjoying life.” says Joe.
Group member Barry says that getting out and about to different places is something to look forward to.
“I think it’s good for a group of men to get out and enjoy themselves on a regular basis. We have a variety of places we go to which makes it very interesting,” says Barry.
But alongside all the laughter and banter, according to group member Martyn, the group has provided support and bonding through difficult times.
“Most of the guys in the group, their wives have either just passed away in the last couple of years or are on their way,” says Martyn.
“It’s not a compulsory thing, but it’s somewhere that if you’re feeling a little bit miserable and you don’t want to be miserable because you want to be happy, you go along.
“If you listen to some of the shyacking going on, you’d think ‘these guys hate each other’ but we love each other. We’re there supporting each other when we need it.
