Back to Back Grand Final Wins for Pirates

After snatching the club’s first-ever finals win in 2018, the Pirates seniors had everything to lose this year. But with their pride on the line, they pulled off back to back wins, taking out the 2019 finals as well.

Seniors coach, Ryan Kirk, reported, “Before the game, the boys were pumped and excited, but you could see the nerves sitting under the surface. By the second quarter, they had settled into the game, and by the end of the third quarter, they had started to pull away from the Roos.”

The Pirates’ big names stood up when it counted. “Big Chris Kassaulke gave us first use at every stoppage and had countless intercept possessions. Blake Passfield (B.O.G), Tommy O and Raabes got on top in the midfield battle with plenty of outside run provided by Swainy. Ty Cestor kicked 3 and Chez bagged 2 while our back pillars in Ados, Robbie and Rickson stood tall all game.” Coach Kirk said.

“We were also extremely proud of our U16’s, U14’s & U12’s for playing finals this year, with the U12’s taking it all the way to extra time in the Grand Final to go down so closely at the end of the game after giving it their all,” said a Pirates committee member.
