In the 1930s, the Park Ridge Cricket team (pictured below) organised a working bee to construct a concrete cricket pitch on the flats of the Smith family property (currently Sycamore Reserve). Local residents remember seeing the pitch till not long after the highway was upgraded. There is no record of the pitch ever being ripped up and it is thought that the creation of the ‘swamp’ next to the highway has allowed silt to build after after recent flooding and that pitch is now buried.
Park Ridge Connect Community Projects, along with representatives of the Smith family, are organising a ‘search party’ in early June to try locate the pitch. If you are interested in helping unearth this piece of Park Ridge’s history, please contact Paul on 0410 583 291 or paul@prbc.org.au.
