Greenbank Raiders’ Mum
Takes Footy Team to Blackall

What was she thinking?

When I heard that Greenbank mum, Melissa O’Sullivan, wanted to take her son’s U13 footy team to Blackall for a team building week with with Blackall Magpies Rugby League Club, I knew I wanted to find out more. The young mother of three had been inspired by some of the speakers at a recent QRL conference and their desire to instil good values in their kids. She approached them about bringing the clubs two U13 teams out for a week of activities and team building exercises. The Blackall club welcomed their approach and plans were made for the April trek.

“I can not even put into words the hospitality, friendliness, encouragement, fun and lifelong memories that this town, football club and people provided for us, these people are honestly world class legends.”Melissa said.

The Blackall community gave them an amazing array of experiences from making their own sausages with the local butcher to working on farms, tours of some of Australia’s historical sites, and bonfire chats with locals – plus a pile of footy of course.

“We are so grateful to the Blackall community and the Blackall Magpies football community for their hospitality, friendship and accommodation and our forever bond”, She said, “We are committed to ensuring all of our players and their families are exposed to team building experiences and community engagement, this is the first of many projects we are working towards for the 2019 season.”
